Chemonics seeks a trade and customs expert for USAID’s anticipated Central America Regional Trade Facilitation and Border Management Activity in Honduras. This potential five-year project is designed to contribute to Central American countries’ broad-based economic growth by enhancing regional integration and improving trade facilitation. The purpose of the project is to improve regional trade efficiency in Central America at primary ports of entry and key economic corridors, especially in the Northern Triangle countries, reducing the time and cost of trading across borders by assisting public and private sector institutions with achieving greater trade competitiveness in the region. Program activities will take place in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, but the trade and customs expert will be based in Tegucigalpa. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
- Work closely with trade and customs experts in Guatemala and El Salvador, the country manager for Honduras, and the chief of party
- Liaise between the activity and the Honduran customs agency
- Manage the programmatic approach to ensure that it remains both aligned with each country’s strategy and responsive to any policies or changes implemented at the border
- Support and coordinate with the personnel appointed by the Honduran government
- Proactively use monitoring and evaluation data to monitor the impact program activities have on trade facilitation and cross-border initiatives
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in business administration, law, marketing, finance, international trade, international business, economics, or another field related to trade and customs
- Minimum of five years of experience as a professional customs agent or broker Experience working with the Honduran customs agency
- Knowledge of and experience with trade facilitation initiatives
- Experience with competitiveness assessments and the monitoring and evaluation of donor-funded projects
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Fluency in English and Spanish required
