Position Summary:
Creative Associates seeks a Value Chain Productivity Specialist for an upcoming USAID-funded program in Honduras. The overall goal of the activity is to foster competitive, resilient, and inclusive market systems that provide increased opportunities that incorporate poor, marginalized Hondurans and recue incentives to migrate.
The Value Chain Productivity Specialist will be responsible for providing technical direction and leadership for improving the overall performance and productivity of select high value chains, utilizing a demand-driven, private sector-led approach. To facilitate sustainable results, the Value Chain Productivity Specialist will develop and facilitate key stakeholder relationships across selected value chains in order to strengthen vertical and horizontal linkages and relationships.
Reporting & Supervision:
The Value Chain Productivity Specialist will report to the Chief of Party.
Expected Outcomes:
- Expert-level contributions to the team;
- Technical direction, managerial support and fiscal oversight of assigned activities;
- Dynamic representation of Creative before clients and critical audiences; and
- Supervision and nurturing of staff in the field and the corporate office.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Supervise all value chain activities with a goal of increasing the competitiveness and inclusiveness of the targeted value chains;
- Lead and provide expertise in developing and executing sustainable, integrated practices for value chain strengthening and development;
- Design and implement integrated public-private partnerships to improve the value chain and/or its actors;
- Collaborate with government counterparts, donors, and other key stakeholders and partners;
- Support the implementation of technology transfer and capacity building across the value chain actors;
- Provide organizational development support for selected governmental and non-governmental service providers as well as farmer organizations;
- Advise on integrating innovations in selected value chains;
- Assist with the introduction of innovations in the context of public private partnerships, including contract farming;
- Oversee the implementation of all value chain facilitation activities including support to agribusinesses and lead firms, support for improved coordination and linkages within the value chain, capacity building for improved supply chains and improved productivity, and development of supporting service markets;
- Contribute toward the achievement of contractual deliverables including: annual work plans; quarterly, annual, grant and ad-hoc reports as well as outreach material;
- Collaborate with other staff members to ensure proper coordination between the program components, particularly market access and export promotion;
- Interface and collaborate with the project’s targeted value chain stakeholders to advance project objectives and activities;
- Lead efforts to promote best practices in value chain development that will reach women, youth, and smallholder producers; and
- Contribute as a member of the program’s senior management team in terms of defining and implementing program strategy.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in agricultural economics, agronomy, business, MBA, economics, finance, or other relevant field, or equivalent work experience;
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in private sector, value chain productivity, competitiveness, and/or trade and export development;
- Experience effectively integrating gender and youth programming into value chain development design and implementation;
- Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of private sector-led development interventions, buyer-led approaches, M4P, and sustainable market integration and development;
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing whole of value chain interventions;
- Demonstrated experience working with senior-level host country counterparts;
- Demonstrated experience in the design and/or implementation of innovative financing mechanisms for ag value chains;
- Demonstrated experience in technology transfer and design and development of relevant capacity building to stakeholders across the value chain;
- Ability to work and quickly adapt in a complex and fluid regional environment;
- Proven understanding of Honduran’s operating and market environment; and
- Strong written and oral communication skills and fluency in Spanish required, fluency in English preferred.
